NFC(Natural Fibre Composites) are the latest additions to the modern materials using Bamboo Fibres and suitable resins to produce a wonderfully bonded composite material.
The reinforced inter-meshing of fibre to fibre and fibre to resin combination gives a dense matrix of high strength, relatively light weight composite material. Selection of appropriate bamboo as reinforcement material helps to achieve strength comparable to metals. By using moulds of different geometries , a series of shapes and sizes for different application are obtainable.
The resins used are such that the final product becomes free from corrosion. The effects of chemicals like acids and solvents are also absent, making the material ideal for 'wet' environments and in places with oils , lubricants, greases, acids, alkalies, paints or chemicals.
Though it is difficult to harvest the bamboos in the core sector of the cluster, few methods can be adopted to do so. Generally, bamboo is harvested above the first node which prevents infection going through to the root system from the remnant of the harvested pole.
